Turbulent 6 Months

The last 6 months have been turbulent, to say the least. There have been all kinds of ups, downs, and stresses both at work and at home. I thought the end of 2010 was going to kill me. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. I believe I have become a better wife, mother, friend, employee and Christian. I have had to examine my own flaws, forgive others, and take more of an interest in the emotional well being of every one around me. I have found truth in the Bible, that I had never found before (and if you know my background, that is a biggy). Yes, the past 6 months have been rough, and yes, I would gladly trade them, but, I have learned some very important things about myself, others, the world and life.

Top Ten Things I Have Learned:

1. Life is a balance of God's will, man's free will and prayer to change either.
2. I am still a work in progress.
3. If you feel the need to hide or lie, then you know what you are doing is wrong, no matter how many ways you can rationalize it.
4. Everything really does happen for a reason.
5. There is no grey area. It is either right or wrong. However there are many ways to be right and wrong.
6. Listen more. Defend less. Love your family with all you have.
7. Take committments seriously.
8. Do nothing to harm others: physically, emotionally, financially or spiritually.
9. Everything takes work and practice. Even what we thought would/should come naturally.
10. Only be original.
I said ten, but I couldn't narrow it down, so here is one extra:
11. The more you push and try to change people, the more they get set in their ways and stay the same. Real change happens with your influence, and the help of God, not with your pushing, prodding, and demanding.

  1. Great post. =)

It never ceases to amaze me how much we still continue to change, grow, and learn though the years - but we do.

Parents and Nutritional Idealogy

Last night I was reading an article in one of my parenting forums. The article itself was innocent enough, dispelling the myth that caffine stunts growth. The comments however, annoyed the crap out of me. “I don't see the point of giving child soda…..They are pretty horrible for you. So why give it to my daughter? There are plenty of other options out there than soda. Caffeine free or not, they don't need all that sugar. The sugar alternatives are just as bad. Their little bodies are developing so fast, why not give them beverages that encourage a healthy mind and body.” “What amazes me, in reading some of these community answers is how much artificial sugar parents are giving their children. Diet soda is no more healthy than regular soda, it doesn't contain sugar but it does contain chemically made ingredients such as aspartame or Nutra Sweet which the FDA says to consume in moderation because long term side effects need to be evaluated. Its unfortunate that even Pedia...

The Project

The project is simple. Write the maker of a product every day for a year. Do not ask them specifically for coupons as I did in the Coupon Mania post. Do not write regarding any particular product more than twice in a year. Do not write any particular parent company more than four time is a month (or once a week). Be honest in what you write, give feed back, ask questions. (NOTE: While I have these categorized by parent company, I never wrote to any parent company more than one time in a day.)
